Ex-Swedish striker Henrik Larsson, who made himself a legend at Celtic before successful spells at both Barcelona and Manchester United, is the shock new name in contention for Steve Kean’s old job, according to the Daily Mail.

Larsson is currently in charge of Swedish second division club Landskrona but he has told them that he will not renew his contract as he eyes a job in England.

Another name mooted is British-born Indian coach Judan Ali but he could prove to be unpopular with Blackburn fans who are already unhappy with the club’s owners Venky’s.

About Larsson, the Mail states that he “remains a huge name in the game and has commanded respect in Sweden after opting to take his first job at a lower level and keeping the club clear of relegation.

“He is good friends with former Barcelona managers Pep Guardiola and Frank Rijkaard, and has been working with a similar system to Barca’s at Landskrona.

“Larsson, who led Celtic to a famous victory over Blackburn on their way to the UEFA Cup Final in 2003, already has his full UEFA Pro Licence and his coaching methods are admired in Sweden.

“His stay there will come to an end this season and he is now under consideration for a role with a big Championship club.”

If Blackburn did go for Larsson they would have to pay compensation but nothing that would be debilitating.

“Larsson’s release clause is £65,000 but that will not be a problem to Blackburn’s owners if they decide to go ahead with an official approach,” notes the Mail.

Elsewhere, and across the papers there are reports that Darren Bent will hold “showdown” talks with Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert about his future. The Midlands’ club record £24m signing publically expressed his disappointment at being left on the bench against West Brom last Sunday.

Fulham boss Martin Jol is looking to add to his threadbare midfield by signing former Middlesbrough player Mickael Tavares . The French-born Senegal midfielder is a free agent but Jol worked with the 29-year-old at Hamburg. (The Sun)

Many of the papers say that the pressure is growing on QPR boss Mark Hughes after 2-1 home defeat to West Ham left them rooted to the bottom of the table. The Daily Mail even goes so far as to say that Harry Redknapp is being ‘lined up’ as a replacement.
